Over 100 Years of Service
Edlund was founded in 1925 in Burlington, Vermont, by H. J. Edlund, a Swedish-born inventor who recognized the need for a safer, more efficient way to open large cans in institutions such as schools, hospitals, and prisons. From the beginning, we focused on solving the problem of commercial can opening, developing one of the first gear‑driven commercial can openers, including our durable No. 1® and No. 2 models that fold the lid inward to reduce food contamination. What began as a small manufacturing operation grew into an industry leader in commercial can opening, while our headquarters remained in Burlington. Over time, we expanded into related foodservice equipment, including weighing scales, and our products were widely adopted by restaurants and institutions and used by the U.S. military during multiple twentieth‑century conflicts, helping establish our reputation for durability and reliability in high‑volume kitchens.

Today, we continue to operate from Burlington, Vermont, designing and manufacturing a wide variety of innovative kitchen equipment for foodservice operations around the world. As part of Welbilt, we remain focused on producing durable, professional‑grade equipment for high‑volume kitchens while maintaining our long-standing manufacturing presence in Vermont. Edlund is an ISO 9001:2015 company.
