SUMMARY

Sets up and operates power press to produce metal products by blanking, forming, piercing and cutting off parts by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs specified dies on machine bed and ram.
  • Loads coils of material to be run, feed through straightener and into die.
  • Positions and clamps holding fixtures to machine bed.
  • Adjusts setscrews to regulate stroke of ram.
  • Aligns parts between dies or positions them against fixtures on machine.
  • Moves controls to lower ram that bends, clinches, or forces parts together and adjust safety devices.
  • Operates machine to verify that set-up produces a quality part.
  • Sets up and operates machine to punch, cut, face, chamfer, or compress parts preparatory to assembly.
  • Uses functional gage and visual inspection to insure a quality product.
  • Must be able to adjust safety curtains to operate presses safely.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operation.

OTHER NECESSARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards, safety and stretching requirements directed by Edlund Company and the department.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to operate various machines.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to maintenance team and/or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.

  • High School or equivalent required; minimum one year related machine shop experience and/or training; or six months to one year equivalent combination of education and experience in all job function areas.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Ability to frequently kneel, squat, bend and stoop.

  • Ability to walk, sit, talk and/or hear.
  • Ability to work with or be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in and environment with very loud noise level conditions.
