Electro/Mechanical Assembly Technician

SUMMARY
This job is for the purpose of assembling components to build the company's electrical product line (can openers and knife sharpeners).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Proficient in multiple work centers and/or departments.
  • Position requires considerable amount of initial training and continued training required for position in work center to support all of the products.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot, calibrate and perform repairs to products in work center.
  • Must be able to read complex blue prints and/or schematics, and must be able to mark up prints for recommended changes.
  • Must work with model makers and engineers to develop and improve products and processes in work centers. This would include custom fitting of parts as needed.
  • Must be able to use advanced measurement, troubleshooting and repair tools as applicable to their work centers. This would include customer fitting of part as needed.
  • Must be able to use advanced measurement, troubleshooting and repair tools as applicable to their work centers. This may include devices such as oscilloscopes, multi meters, and other complex tools and equipments.
  • Must be adept in complex mechanical, pneumatics, electrical and/or electronics to support all products and processes within the department work centers as needed.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive and non-repetitive manufacturing processes efficiently and effectively.

  • Provide feedback to refine and improve processes on an ongoing basis.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, ergonomic standards and safety requirements directed by Edlund Company and the department.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training or a combination of the two.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work from verbal instructions, job instructions and machine manuals to assure consistency in quality and workmanship.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Predominately active with high frequency of standing, walking, lifting, reaching, hand and arm usage (67% - 100% of the workday).
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
